The Vancouver Convention Centre is ready to welcome Vancouver 2010 Olympic visitors, but unlike China whose gargantuan architecture we marveled at 2 years ago for Beijing games, this BC hub is focusing more on green than glam… although I would argue they’ve done a marvelous job of combining both.
“By connecting the interior design with the spectacular natural landscape of British Columbia, the Vancouver Convention Centre is one of the greenest convention centres in the world,” the Flickr site says. “It boasts a living roof, seawater heating and cooling, on-site water treatment, and fish habitat built into the foundation of the West Building. The space has been awarded the GO GREEN certificate from the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) for industry-approved, environmental best practices in building management.”
These pictures of the Vancouver Convention Centre show the stacked Hemlock walls, Canada’s largest green roof, and they showcase the aesthetic splendor of the building and its waterfront West Coast location.
